Ryan’s Evil Empire

1172 20120817 Evil Ryan

Paul Ryan has cited Rage Against the Machine as one of his favorite bands… and that is crazy. RATM’s guitarist Tom Morello responded to this exactly as I would have expected: Paul Ryan is the embodiment of the machine our music rages against. Rest assured I listened to Evil Empire while drawing this.

Tell That to the Plants!

1049 20120228 C02

Hey everyone! It’s Rick Santorum time again! Over the weekend, Ricky said, “CO2 is a pollutant? Tell that to the plants.” I can’t even make this stuff up. Yes, plants use a small amount of carbon—not the 90 million tons of carbon emissions we’re putting into the air daily that is directly causing global warming. Plants release water from small pores in their leaves allowing them to cool their surroundings. If there is too much carbon dioxide the pores constrict and as a result less water can be released causing the plant to lose it’s cooling power. But, that’s science and Santorum doesn’t believe in that.

Christie Says Shut Up

Earlier in the week, NJ Gov. Chris Christie said that Warren Buffett should “Shut up,” regarding Buffett’s call for tax fairness. Buffett has proposed modest tax increases on the wealthiest people in this country—who already pay a lower percentage than the middle and lower-income population. You know, the other 99% of us. Republicans like Christie love to pretend that they care about the deficit. Raising the taxes on the wealthy just to the point where they pay the same percentage as the rest of us would bring in a tremendous amount of money. Christie went on to say that Buffett should just write a check if he wants to pay more. The problem is not that certain individuals want to pay more but can’t—we’re dealing with a much bigger issue wherein we need to increase revenues substantially. A few people contributing here and there is going to be a drop in the bucket compared to a small increase among all of the wealthy—namely those making over $1million per year. And let’s be honest, who’s going to pay more just because they can?
