All My Bikes: 13, S&M Holmes

S&M Holmes BMX bike illustration

When I was in high school I picked up an S&M Holmes frameset from my local bike shop. This was the first time in my life that I actually had a local shop to go to, whether it was to shop or just hang out. A couple of my friends worked there and it was almost always a good time. I saved a lot of lunch money to buy the S&M.. but how could I not? S&M was (is) a badass, American-made, rider-owned company. I loved everything about the brand. The Holmes was also the first frame that actually had a long enough top tube to suit my tallness. That took some getting used to.

On a side note, it looks like S&M rereleased the Holmes again—and in chrome! Aghh, I want that.

I totally love this project, I wish I had thought of it. I’m posting this on the Holmes because it was my first new frame and your illustration made me all nostalgic.

Really nice stuff, I’m off to check out your other work.

Thanks Micah! I am actually in the process of hunting down another Holmes!

Nice drawing. I came across when doing a Google image search for an S&M Holmes. I noticed you drawing has “Rooster?” on it. The question mark lead me to believe that it confuses you so I thought I’d comment to shed some light on the matter:
In case you didn’t know, The Holmes is essentially a longer version of the Dirtbike and was named after a porn star with a long member (John Holmes). The rooster sticker is on the frame because a rooster is also known as a Cock. Get it?

Thanks Lalo, I actually did know that. The question was kind of a subtle joke—but I think I only got it. I recently picked up a 96′ Holmes that I am slowly building up since I foolishly got rid of this one long ago.
