I recently worked on this split-promo piece with my new friends at Frank Collective Inc. I hand-lettered several hundred “industry terms,” that we find rather silly. We’d much rather be frank with our clients.

I forgot to mention that I recently created a mix for DesignersMX. I love their premise; “If you’re anything like us, you love music as much as design. We’re asking some of the industry’s top designers to let us in on one of their secrets…what music fuels their creativity”

I just started a new website with Aaron of the pop culture blog, Unlikely Words. It’s called Pets are Superheroes—and it features, you guessed it, drawings of pets as superheroes. The idea started as a bit of a joke, but after I drew a couple we were laughing too hard to not make the site. If you’re interested in having your pet drawn as a superhero head on over!

I just received my advance copy of the I Love My Bike book that I designed for Chronicle over the summer. Seeing a finished and produced piece is always exciting—especially when that piece is almost 200 pages! I’ll have some better photographs taken soon—but in the meantime here is a sneak peak (including a process photo).

I created custom lettering treatments for everyone that was featured in the book. I just discovered this photo I took during the process (with a typo and all!).

I also used the lettering treatments to make a pattern for the book’s endsheets.

Yesterday Kottke posted about a book by David Eagleman titled, Sum. Eagleman describes afterlife to be a series of like activities grouped together and then never experienced again.

In the afterlife you relive all your experiences, but this time with the events reshuffled into a new order: all the moments that share a quality are grouped together.

But that doesn’t mean it’s always pleasant. You spend six days clipping your nails. Fifteen months looking for lost items. Eighteen months waiting in line.

Aaron thought I should make a drawing about it. I agreed.

Earlier today John at Prolly is Not Probably posted some really nice photos of my new zine, All My Bikes. I liked them so much that I wanted to post them here as well. Typostruction 2 also shown.

Mr. Finkle, the photographer and creator of the I Love My Bike book, asked me to put together a little preview of the book interior (since I had shown the final cover the other day). So, here is a small sampling of the contents of the I Love My Bike book—which will be out this fall. In the meantime you can pre-order it at Amazon, Borders and Barnes & Noble.

One of the big projects I have been working on is the I Love My Bike book for Chronicle Books. Now that it’s off to production for release this Spring I thought I’d share some of the initial cover comps that I worked on, as well as the final cover. As much as I prefer the more illustrative and simpler options, we decided that it was important to portray the contents of the book with a grid of photographs. This eliminates any confusion about the contents of the book and also differentiates it from the many journals Chronicle also produces.
