Robyn was Robbed

1039 20120214 Robyn Was Robbed

I never thought I’d be making a drawing about a Swedish pop singer-songwriter, but here we are. A few months ago, Aaron Cohen tweeted about a song called, Call Your Girlfriend by Robyn. The name alone was intriguing enough for me and before I knew it I had watched the video a handful of times. I don’t know why I like it, but I do. It would make sense if I listened to anything similar, but alas, that isn’t the case. Anyway, the more I learned about Robyn the more I was into her. She’s a complete workaholic and I always support and appreciate that. She released 3 albums in six months while touring simultaneously. If that’s not enough, she did it on her own label after ending a long-term relationship with Jive Records. They reacted poorly to her trying new things musically, so instead of giving in she made it happen without their help. She’s never gotten the attention she deserves in the US but it looked like that might change at the Grammys last night… except Skrillex swooped in and won both categories she was nominated for.

I think the real reason I like Robyn is because of this video. I have a weird obsession with horribly sad, depressing songs and this sure fills those credentials! ‘You’ll looked happy and that’s great…”
