Procrastination

Procrastination, Chris Piascik

Recently Jessica Hische was on Debbie Millman’s podcast, Design Matters. In the interview Debbie brought up this quote by Jessica, “The work you do while you procrastinate is probably the work you should be doing for the rest of your life.” I love it. Listening to Jessica talk about her career trajectory really resonated with me as there are some similarities. We both started out working at design studios and ended up going off onto our own. Jessica cited her Daily Drop Cap project as a driving force for the work she gets. Back in 2007, while working at Alphabet Arm, I started posting daily drawings on my website. I never would have guessed at the time that those drawings would lead to me becoming an independent illustrator. My dailies are by far my best marketing tool—in fact it’s almost all that I do in that department. This one is my 940th.

If you’ve somehow not seen Jessica Hische’s work—go check it out—right now. Not only is her work great, but her writing about design and illustration is fantastic.

Thanks for posting this Chris, I’ll check out the podcast. Jessica is truly an inspiration to the young (or sort of young) Designers and Illustrators out there working today. You can tell her heart and soul goes into everything she does.
